چکیده

Implementations of logical reasoning systems are invariably based on the foundational theory of justification. The AGM logic is based on the coherence theory and the principle of minimal change, but this presents difficulties in its implementation. We show that both the foundational and coherence styles of reasoning are necessary for practical reasoning and that both can be achieved in the AGM logic by choosing particular epistemic entrenchment orderings. We also describe the limitations which must be imposed on the logic in order to implement the system.

Kant’s Philosophy of Religion and the Challenges of Moral Commitment

Kant believes that the concepts of a just and compassionate God and the life beyond death spring from our rational need to unite happiness with virtue. But since Kant had banished happiness from any place in moral reasoning, his philosophy of religion have been deemed as not merely discontinuous with his ethics but radically opposed to it. This article tries to argue against this apparent incon...

Reasoning the FMA Ontologies with TrOWL

In this paper, we briefly introduce the TrOWL ontology reasoning infrastructure and share our experience of using TrOWL to reason with various versions of the Foundational Model of Anatomy Ontology (FMA), which are among the most challenging ontologies for Description Logic reasoners.

Meanings of Foundational Virtue in Islamic Mystical Ethics: A Case Study of Honesty

In mystical ethics, some virtues have a foundational role in relation to other virtues; that is, other virtues are in some ways dependent on, conditional to, or rooted in them. This is a gradational concept, and therefore one can speak of foundational and more foundational among foundational virtues in mysticism. Honesty is the most foundational virtue in mystical ethics, and other virtues are ...

Experience in Reasoning with the Foundational Model of Anatomy in OWL DL

The objective of this study is to compare description logics (DLs) and frames for representing large-scale biomedical ontologies and reasoning with them. The ontology under investigation is the Foundational Model of Anatomy (FMA). We converted it from its frame-based representation in Protégé into OWL DL. The OWL reasoner Racer helped identify unsatisfiable classes in the FMA. Support for consi...

The Foundational Model of Anatomy in OWL: Experience and Perspectives

We present the method developed for migrating the Foundational Model of Anatomy (FMA) from its representation with frames in Protégé to its logical representation in OWL and our experience in reasoning with it. Despite the extensive use of metaclasses in Protégé, it proved possible to convert the FMA from Protégé into OWL DL, while capturing most of its original features. The conversion relies ...
